Opened in 2013,
after the 10-year anniversary of the league, the BJHL Hall of Fame commemorates
the best players in the history of the Bench Jockey Hardball League.
Every season, the Commissioner's Office selects a handful of players for
consideration. To be selected, a player must have had a minimum of 10 years
spent in the BJHL (not counting any time spent in the minor or international leagues), and must
have accumulated statistics and renown that the Commissioner believes warrants
Hall of Fame consideration. The league's owners then vote on the candidates. For
a player to enter the Hall of Fame, his name must appear on two-thirds of the
ballots submitted that season. Any player not receiving that many votes will
automatically be placed on the ballot again the following season, for a maximum
of five seasons. Should a player be named by less than 10% of the voters in any
given year, however, he is permanently disqualified from Hall of Fame
nomination. The owners are not directed to consider any specific criteria when
submitting their votes: everyone is free to decide for themselves what
constitutes a worthy career and what does not.
It is worth noting that many of the players selected to the Hall in early
seasons had an abbreviated career due to their age at the league's inception in
2003, and thus never had the opportunity to accumulate the same calibre of
statistics as the players selected in later years. So even though they may
appear to be of a lesser pedigree than later-day players, they are given places
of equal honour in this Hall.
All the current Hall of Famers are listed below by induction year. Each list is
also a link that will take you to a page containing more details about the
player(s) inducted that year. For every player, you will find a plaque identifying their name, position, years of service in the
BJHL, and the team with which they had the greatest success. Beside each plaque
is a summary of the player's career highlights. The plaques themselves are links
to each player's SION page, which lists biographical data and career statistics.
